How We Mix AI And Real Footage In One Ad

The question isn’t “AI or real?” anymore. Many of the ads we deliver today are hybrid ads: real footage where trust matters, AI where it would be slow or expensive to film. Done well, nobody notices the mix — they just see an ad that looks great and feels honest. Here’s how we build them.

Why hybrid ads work

Real footage proves the product exists and works: real hands, real texture, real reactions. AI adds what a small brand usually can’t afford: cinematic locations, perfect product close-ups, dramatic lighting. Together you get the credibility of UGC with the look of a big-budget commercial.

Our 5-step process

  1. Start with the message, not the tool. We write the script first: hook, problem, product, proof, offer. Only then do we decide which line needs a real person and which needs a visual.
  2. Mark the “proof moments”. Anything that shows the product working — applying a balm, a before-and-after, a gadget in use — stays real. These are the moments viewers judge.
  3. Mark the “mood moments”. Lifestyle shots, locations, ingredient visuals and dramatic product reveals are perfect for AI. They set the feeling without claiming results.
  4. Match the look. Colour-grade AI and real footage together so they feel like one shoot: same warmth, same contrast, similar camera movement. Mismatched colours are what usually gives AI away.
  5. Edit at native speed. Short cuts, captions and sound design in the style of the platform. On TikTok and Reels, a hybrid ad should still feel like a post, not a TV spot.

A sample structure (30 seconds)

  • 0–3s, hook (real): a creator’s genuine reaction or a bold question to camera.
  • 3–8s, problem (AI or stock-style): a quick visual of the frustration the product solves.
  • 8–15s, product reveal (AI): a cinematic close-up of the product in an aspirational setting.
  • 15–24s, proof (real): the product in use, texture shots, a real before-and-after.
  • 24–30s, offer and call to action (mixed): the product with the offer on screen and a clear “shop now”.

Examples from our work

For a skincare balm we combined a real creator talking about sensitive skin with AI scenes of the jar in a golden meadow. For a premium sauna we built most of the lifestyle story with AI — mornings, gym, recovery — around real product shots. For a whitening toothpaste we mixed real UGC smiles with AI-assisted product visuals. You can watch these in our AI ads portfolio.

Mistakes to avoid

  • Faking the result. Never let AI create the “after”. If the result isn’t real, it’s misleading — and ad platforms can reject it.
  • Too much polish. If every frame looks perfect, the ad stops feeling like UGC. Keep some natural, handheld moments.
  • Inconsistent product details. AI sometimes changes logos, labels or shapes. Check every product shot against the real packaging.
  • Forgetting the rules. Some placements require you to disclose AI-generated content. See AI Ads On Meta & TikTok: The Rules.
